Helpful Website Tips
It is
safe to say that unless a website generates a lead or a sale
then it is worthless. To make your website have value in the
eyes of the consumer, here are a few tips to help you generate
more conversions on your site.
Simplicity Rules
A good
web design has just enough text to lead the visitor and the
search engine spiders, but not overdone as to overwhelm the
user with information he or she may not need. If you're selling
a product or service, don't lose your customer in excess jargon
or verbiage.
Use Graphics
Wisely
Use
graphical guidance and interface where possible. Plan
your website so that users find their information in
3 or less clicks of a mouse. Want some ideas? Check out
Apple.com or a good real estate website such as
REALTOR.com.
Use Video
No
one showcases videos better in my opinion than
TigerDirect. If you have a product you're selling, showing a
video demo of that product is priceless. Be sure to give
the consumer good, sound advice. Be sure to place a
large BUY NOW button somewhere on the page near the video. We
have an entire section of our website dedicated to video and
video production for the web. For an example of a product I
purchased from TigerDirect.com because they made it so
easy, click
here.
Generate More
Leads
Lead
generating giveaways are a great way to get a few more
registrations on your website. Do you publish a newsletter,
write a blog, etc? If so, and it's good stuff, up to 15% of
your website visitors will trade their name and e-mail address
for your "item of value." Test different ideas like monthly
drawings or free stuff.
Take Care of Your Leads &
Incubate!
Are you
sending valuable and informative content about your services or
products to your website subscribers every 2-3 weeks? If
not, you're wasting valuable human equity. MOST BUYERS ARE NOT
READY TO BUY NOW--BUT THEY WILL BUY IN THE FUTURE. If you
understand this fact, you are one step closer to being a
successful search engine marketer. The most successful
companies keep you coming back to their website time and time
again. Every get an e-mail from Amazon.com that says "other
people that bought the book you did also purchased this book"?
Nine times out of ten I'll click on that e-mail. I rarely
purchase, but if their e-mail system causes me to purchase 2%
of the time, Amazon just scored a gigantic return on
investment. All they did was nurture my
relationship.
I
Can't Find You!
So you've
worked hard to have a compelling website that people spend a
lot of time on--congratulations! Only one problem, they can't
find your phone number. In my humble opinion, the phone number
should be proudly displayed on every page of your website in
almost every situation. While forms and e-mail are great
way to communicate, nothing beats face-to-face or
voice-to-voice contact.
Know Your Target
When was
the last time a 50 year old baby boomer purchased a shirt from
Abercrombie and Fitch for themselves? Hopefully never!
IA&F's target market is young hipsters between 16
and 22 years of age who can afford expensive
clothing. Your website focus needs to be laser beam
accurate. Don't try to be all things to all people online, it
simply won't work.
