What is it?

GeoTargeting is the ability to show your advertisement to keyword search queries limited to a geographical area.



A living example of Search Engine GeoTargeting:

BUSINESS TYPE: You own a local piano dealership in Atlanta specializing in selling Yamaha and Steinway grand pianos. You also have 10 studios where parents can bring their children to take piano lessons.

CUSTOMERS: Virtually all of your customers and sales come from within a 100 mile radius. However, the piano lesson students come from a radius of 10 miles.

OBJECTIVE: 2 objectives. 1) Attract more students to the dealership that will take lessons that will hopefully buy a piano at some point in the future.  2) Extend the reach of the piano business to a larger audience that encompasses the southeast region of the United States.

SOLUTION: For objective #1, a paid search campaign that is geographically targeted on search engines such as Google that allow GeoTargeting. This campaign will use general keywords a user would type to find a piano teacher or get piano lessons.  The targeting would be set within certain zip codes, cities, or a radius from the store. All good solutions that would work in this case.

For objective #2, a regional campaign would be implemented to include the Southeast US when people type in any keyword combination referencing products sold at the dealership such as "Yamaha grand pianos", "Yamaha piano dealer(s)" or "new Steinway pianos". Campaigns would be split tested with various ad copy over time to find the best possible optimized ad that yield profitable results for the dealership.
